I'm going to stop over and have 8 hours to the next flight goes. How long does it take to get into the Forbidden City and back to the airport?

It takes about 40 minutes by taxi for one way.  You can also take airport shuttle bus line 2 to Xidan and then take a taxi. It takes a bit more than an hour.
