About:History of Silk Road

Because of the cultural exchanges being made along the Silk Road, did people become more educated about their religions as well as other religions? Did many people try to convert others as well as convert themselves to a different religion? In ancient times, were people that converted to different religions looked down upon in their societies?
~thank you. :)
