About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Trip From US to Taiwan to Shanghai to US

Hello, I think this is valid but I wanted to double check:

US (A) to Taipei (B)
Taipei (B) to Shanghai (C)
Shanghai (C) to US (A)

So it would seem to me that it's A to B to C to A, C being China and the originating countries are different so that would count. My concern is whether Taiwan is recognized as a separate country, B or as part of C

The most important detail is that your itinerary is definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Here it is essential to emphasize that your flight from Shanghai or any other place in mainland China to US is not allowed to have any kind of landing in Taiwan. It is perfectly fine to use Taiwan as your immediate point before mainland China, but since you have used it as your immediate point before mainland China, you cannot use it as immediate point after mainland China, but it has to be some other country or eligible territory like US in your presented itinerary. By the way, Taiwan is not a country, but an eligible territory as Hong Kong and Macau are. In other words, you can use it for 240 hour visa free transit purposes within the itinerary as you have presented. Have a nice visit to China.
