About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is Taiwan-Beijing then Shanghai -Taipei valid for 240 hour no visa policy

I am US citizen with US passport currently an Alien resident in Taiwan. Can I do the above route using the 240 hour no visa policy? My flight back to US is 2 days after I return to Taipei

No, you cannot do that. The basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit clearly requires that the immediate points before and after mainland China have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) and your itinerary has both of its immediate points in just one eligible territory - Taiwan.

The solution for your itinerary is to insert some nearby country or another eligible territory like South Korea or Hong Kong. In other words, your new, eligible itinerary could look like:

Taipei - Seoul - Beijing - Shanghai - Taipei

or

Taipei - Beijing - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Taipei

As you can see, in the itineraries I have presented, the immediate points before and after mainland China are located in two different countries or eligible territories. So, if you can do that, you can enjoy 240 hour visa free transit scheme, but this is not possible with your current itinerary. I hope this helps.
