Canadian going to Shenzhen for daytrip from Hong Kong

I am a Canadian citizen who will be visiting Hong Kong in early Janruary 2026. I would like to go for a daytrip to Shenzhen to shop, but I am worried that the border visa application will take hours. I don"t want to go if that is the case because I do not want to have my hosts - who are Chinese_ wait with me. Any idea approximately how long the process takes if I were to go on a weekday morning? And is there a particular weekday that is usually less busy? Thank you in advance!

The best weekdays are from Monday to Thursday. If you arrive in the morning, you can expect to spend somewhere around 45 to 60 minutes to clear visa on arrival formalities. Sometimes it can take slightly longer, up to 90 minutes, but not longer than that. Here I am talking about Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing that is the best to use in this regard. The price is 130 CNY and you can pay by your bank card (debit or credit) or by Chinese cash. When you are over with your visit to Shenzhen, you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed train included. Have a nice visit to Shenzhen.
