No, this is not possible. You have two options how to enter mainland China in an easy way, but none of them includes the possibility of taking a through train from Hong Kong to mainland China. These options are:
1. You can apply and obtain a single entry Shenzhen 5 days visa on arrival at Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing for an affordable fee of 130 CNY. You can take a Hong Kong suburban train until Lo Wu, walk to Luohu and apply there for this visa on arrival. After that you can enter Shenzhen, but you are limited to Shenzhen city limits only. After your visit to Shenzhen, you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed through train included (it is good for exits).
2. You can rely on 240 hour visa free transit. In order to enjoy 240 hour visa free transit, you will have to introduce Macau into the equation. So, you can take a ferry from Hong Kong to Macau. Immediately as you have arrived in Macau, you can take a ferry to Shekou port in Shenzhen. When you arrive in Sjhkeou port you will apply for a temporary entry permit and with that permit you are allowed to travel to Guangzhou and even farther, all the way to Beijing. You will return to Hong Kong by high speed train (again, it is good for exists). In order to be allowed to perform this option, you will have to use Macau and the ferry from there to Shekou, you will have to stay within mainland China more than 24 hours (at least a minute more than that) and you will have to buy your exit train ticket to Hong Kong even before you depart from Macau toward mainland China because you will be asked to present one in both Macau at the time of your boarding the ferry to Shekou and upon your arrival in Shekou.
These are your available options and you will decide whether to take one.
