About:China Visa on Arrival

Travel to Xiamen from Taiwan

Hello, I’m a US citizen living in Taiwan. I plan to visit Xiamen for 3 days. It’s difficult to get a visa from Taiwan, so I’m hoping I can get a visa on arrival.

Unfortunately, there is no visa on arrival at Xiamen or at least, its issuing is experiencing current suspension. Your best solution is 240 hour visa free transit. So, before you depart from Taiwan you will buy a train ticket from Xiamen to Hong Kong (you can also fly, but I consider a train to be a better or to say, more convenient option). Please, have in mind that your train departure from Xiamen to Hong Kong has to be at least 24 hours away from the time of your arrival by plane to Xiamen from Taiwan. Also, you will really have to use that train you have bought the ticket for. Like this you will create an eligible itinerary: Taiwan - mainland China (Xiamen) - Hong Kong that is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. When you arrive in Hong Kong you are free to travel wherever you want, including a flight to Taiwan. I hope this could be a solution for your travel plans. Have a nice visit to Xiamen.
