Does a Canadian citizen traveling from Tokyo to Shanghai and then to Vancouver qualify for the 144-h

A Canadian citizen is traveling from Tokyo to Shanghai and then to Vancouver. Does this qualify for the 144-hour free-visa transit?

Yes, you are qualified. BTW, the 144 policy has been upgraded to 240h which allows you to cross provincial boundaries to explore 24 provinces or regions in China within 10 days. So you can not only visit Shanghai, but other hot destinations like Beijing, Guanzhou, Xi'an, Suzhou, Zhangjiajie... for up to 10 days.
