Chinese Visa from Taiwan

I'm a US citizen but I'm staying in Taiwan rn doing a mandarin learning program (on a visa) and I want to visit Chengdu when my semester ends since the flights would be cheaper. Is it possible to apply for a Chinese visa from Taiwan as a US citizen? Should I just go to Hong Kong and apply there?

I'm afraid you can't get a China visa in Taiwan. But you can utilize the 144hr visa free transit to get 6 days in Chengdu. See details on this page:https://www.travelchinaguide.com/package/chengdu/144hour-visa-free.htm
