About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hrs TWOV in Beijing (PEK) for Indonesia's passport

Hi, i'm Sherly from Indonesia. I have booked a flight from Indonesia to Japan using AirChina with transit/layover time for around 22 hours. I will arrived at PEK around 10 am and my flight to Japan will be on the next morning around 10 am.

Am I eligible to get 24 hrs TWOV? coz i'm planning to travel the city (incl staying for a night since my connection flight to Japan will be in the morning).

Sherly, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. However, when talking about the layover (transit) time, you have to be very specific and very precise. If your total transit time based on scheduled times is shorter or exactly equal to 24 hours, you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, but if your entire transit time is just a minute longer than 24 hours, you are not eligible and the visa obtained in advance is needed to perform such a journey.

Under the assumption that your transit time is not longer than 24 hours, you are fine and you should have in mind that the first thing you will do upon landing in Beijing is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking. This application is free of any charge. After a short check you will be granted a permit and you will head to immigration and spend your time in Beijing on your own. Have a nice journey.

This is perfect. Yes, your temporary entry permit will be approved since your entire transit time is very, very long. Please, just use correct terminology because you will fly under 24 hour TWOV, but a detail that you are looking for is temporary entry permit. So, you will be granted a permit and not 24 hour TWOV. TWOV is a status and a permit will allow you to leave the airport and to formally enter China for some sightseeing and a good night rest.
