About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US > Shenzhen (with transit layover in Taiwan) > Taiwan > US

Would the above itinerary qualify for the 144 visa free transit, or does the initial transit layover in Taiwan cause a problem?

So the route will be US - Taiwan - Shenzhen - Taiwan - US? It is not an eligible route because the stops before and after China mainland should be different regions.
