About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a US citizen traveling to Taiwan then China

I will be traveling to Taiwan from USA while I am in Taiwan I would like to visit China. do I need a visa or do I qualify for the 144 hour visa free?

For 144-hour visa-free transit, you cannot fly a round-trip Taiwan-Mainland China-Taiwan. But flying Taiwan-Mainland China-Hong Kong-Taiwan would be acceptable. Or flying Taiwan-Hong Kong-Mainland China-Taiwan. You just have to be in transit to a 3rd destination outside of mainland China.
