About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover staying in the aiport

Hello I have a layover of 10 hours in Xiamen airport, do I need to apply for any sort of transit visa? I don't have plans to leave the airport.

Thank you

Assuming that you will travel between two different countries and/or regions (like Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) through Xiamen, implies that you are perfectly eligible for 24 hours visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Also, with 10 hours layover, you would be qualified for temporary entry permit to spend some time by exploring Xiamen, if you want that, of course. It's up to you.

Thank you! Departing from Manila and going to Amsterdam, so I think that's fine.

I don't think I will leave the airport since the layover it 10h at night time. Just hope to find a comfortable place to rest.

One more question, perhaps you know, I think I need a negative covid test to board the plane. Which one? If antigen self test suffices, do I take a picture of the result?

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes, if your layover in Xiamen is during the night hours, it would be useless to exit the airport, I agree.

You can bring PCR or antigen test and they should not be older than 48 hours at the time of departure of your Xiamen bound flight. Also, you should have a test in hard copy rather than on your smartphone. Maybe even the smartphone option could be accepted since you will be just in pure transit, i.e. airside, but I suggest a hard copy for your peace of mind.

Quick update from me for anyone else stumbling across this.

The layover was actually easy. It did involve filling a form and going through customs twice (even for layover you enter / exit the country) but that was it. I did a self-test and took a picture of it, but I didn't have to show it to anyone, they only asked me to write down the test result on the mentioned form.

Thanks for your help Borut!
