Part 1:
Tram, your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.
Your layover in Kunming is short and relatively risky, but since you have bought your flight ticket as a single booking, you should be aware that in case that your flight from Seoul to Kunming is late, then China Eastern has the responsibility to accommodate you and to re-book you at their own expenses for the first available flight to Hanoi.
It is also true that you will have to collect and then re-check your baggage. By taking a look at the relevant schedules it is obvious that you will use flights MU2004 / MU9605 and that scheme really requires that you collect and re-check your baggage. Here is what will you do:
- Before your flight to Hanoi via Kunming you should fill out your Chinese arrival card online through Chinese National Immigration administration website. This will help you to have more time upon landing.
- When you board the plane, you will show your situation (flight scheme) to the flight attendant and require that you get the priority disembark. Also, when you disembark from the plane, just be fast in walking.
- You will first perform fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machine and then proceed toward 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will ask for urgency. Please, just do not be shy because you have to catch the plane for Hanoi. At the counter you will present your flight tickets and you will be granted a temporary entry permit. Please, just to remember, do not go to the immigration before you receive this temporary entry permit!
- When you receive a temporary entry permit, head to the immigration and enter China.
