On arrival Visa Shenzhen Shekou Port US passport

Can a US passport holder (not in tour group) visiting HK go to shenzhen Shekou port or other ports in the land border and apply for on arrival visa for a day or two? Or the person can only travel as part of a tour group?

Yes, you could get Shenzhen SEZ Port Tourist Visa at Shekou port. Luohu, Huanggang and Futian ports are also ok. You don't need to be a part of a tour group.
