Chinese Visa for UK cisitizens on a cruise visiting China.

We are on a cruise early next year. We visit Hongkong on 28 Feb 26, then onto Taiwan and Japan. On 5 & 6 March 26 we are in Shanghai, then onto more of Japan. We don;t visit anywhere else in China. From what I've read our itinerary only requires a single entry visa, but I have also read somewhere that we might be exempted because we are cruise passengers and we will only be doing a cruise sponsored excursion on land.

Can you please tell me what do we will need or not need to enter China?

Thank you ...

If your route is Taiwan - Shanghai - Japan, you, as UK passport holder, is eligible for 240-hour visa-free transit.

If it is Japan - Shanghai - Japan, you need a visa with a single entry, Martin, unless you are received by Chinese travel agencies when in Shanghai. See details at the Article 3 on this page: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/intro2.htm
