So your route will be Thailand - Shanghai - Thailand (stopover) - Malaysia? Sorry, it's not an eligible route, because your immediate stops before and after China Mainland is the same.

Yes, this is a problem that disables you from using 240 hour visa free transit. The basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit clearly requires that the immediate points before and after mainland China are located in two different countries or eligible territories. As you can see, both of your immediate points are located in one country - Thailand. In other words, you need a visa obtained in advance or you have to change your itinerary to comply with a basic 240 hour visa free transit rule. Hope this helps.

Yes, this is a problem and that stopover makes your itinerary an ineligible. As far as you know the basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit clearly defines that the immediate points before and after mainland China have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). As you can see your both immediate points are in one country - Thailand. If you retain this itinerary, you will need a visa obtained in advance or you will have to make necessary changes in order to create your itinerary to comply with the basic 240 hour visa free transit rule.
