Flying from UK to HK, then visit Shenzhen

Hi

I am planning a trip to HK from the UK where I would stay for a few days. I then want to cross the border into Shenzhen, stay there for 4 or 5 days and then fly from Shenzhen back to the UK. Am I correct in saying that I can apply for a VOA and I don't need to go back to HK to fly back to the UK I can leave from Shenzhen airport?

thanks

Exactly. You are perfectly allowed to do everything you have mentioned, but be warned that your flight from Shenzhen is not allowed to have any additional stop of any kind within mainland China!

Assuming that you are a UK citizen, you will have to pay 304 CNY for 5 day Shenzhen VOA. You are advised to use Lo Wu / Luohu border crossing and to bring this amount in Chinese cash. You can easily obtain it at one of many Hong Kong money changers.
