About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US-Hong Kong-Shanghai-US

I just wanted to confirm that if I am flying from the US to Hong Kong and staying there for three days, then flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai and staying there for three days and then flying home from Shanghai to the US-will I qualify for the 144 hour visa free transit? I am flying from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to Hong Kong and then from Shanghai to Los Angeles to Las Vegas on one itinerary and the flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai is booked separately since I couldn't book it all together in one itinerary. Will this be a problem being that they are not all together on one itinerary?
My daughter will be flying from Tokyo to Hong Kong and then to Shanghai with me and then back to Tokyo as well and they will be two different itineraries for the same reason.
I just wasn't sure if you had to show one itinerary with multi-city flights booked together.

Lauren, both, your and your daughter's itineraries are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. It is also perfectly fine to have separate tickets. In reality, only the immediate points before and after your mainland Chinese destination matter. In your case:

Hong Kong - Shanghai - Los Angeles

In case of your daughter

Hong Kong - Shanghai - Tokyo

Bot are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.

Lauren, as mentioned by Saul on your other thread, you can really be relaxed because you are perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit :)

Thank you. I tried calling Hong Kong Airlines since that is who we are flying from HK to Shanghai and they didn't seem to know what I was talking about which worried me since they could deny our boarding without a visa.
