About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Third country confirmation

Hi

Does country C have to be different to country A? Ie can you fly to say Shanghai from Australia stay the 144 hours and then return to Australia?

And on the assumption you can’t just confirming Taiwan is an acceptable country C?

Country C has to be different than country A. So an itinerary:

Australia - Shanghai - Australia

Is not eligible.

Anyway, if you introduce some third country or eligible Chinese territory like Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, then you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. For example, an itinerary:

Australia - Shanghai - Taiwan - Australia

Is perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
