do i need china visa for going out to xiamen for sightseeing maybe 10 hours?

I am an Indonesian passport holder with US Green card.  I'm taking a Xiamen airline to go from Los Angeles to Jakarta but transit time at the city will be 12 hours to connect.  Can I go out of airport for sightseeing without China Visa?  And is traffic ok to go back and forth in 1 hour to city?  Where should I go around in the city if I have about 10 hours time.  Thank you. You can apply for a stay permit at the airport since you are eligible for 24-hour free visa transit. It takes about 1 hour to the downtown area for a single journey. You can visit the famous Nanputuo Temple or go shopping in Zhongshan Road.
