About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

U.S. passport holder fly from LAX to Xiamen to Australia

We have a 16 hour layover in Xiamen in-between flights from LAX to Australia, do we need to get a visa if we want to do some exploring during that time?

You don't need to get it. You can apply for 24h twov in Xaimen.
