About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

China Cruise

I am a US citizen. I am taking a cruise that begins in Tokyo, goes thru S Korea and then to China beginning in Shanghai and ending in Beijing with stops in Dalian and Quingdao for a total of 6 days. I fly from Beijing back to the US. Does this qualify for the new free-transit Visa?
Thanks

Yes, it does. Your itinerary is a textbook example of how an eligible itinerary should look like. Just one tiny warning. Your flight from China to US is not allowed to have a landing in Japan of any kind. Also, your Chinese segment was allowed to last even for 10 days since it is 240 hour visa free transit. Have a wonderful journey.

Just one important addition. I have written that your flight from China to US is not allowed to have a landing of any kind in Japan, but I was really thinking - South Korea and not Japan. It is perfectly fine if you plan to travel back to US via Japan however, it should not be South Korea because South Korea was the immediate country before China, so it cannot be an immediate point after China. There have to be two different countries as immediate points before and after China. Apologies for the typo and have a wonderful cruise.
