Flights between Australia and Taiwan, transit in Guangzhou

Hi we are Australian passport holder, flying from Perth to Taipei and on our way back, we have 22 hours transit time and we would like to stay over at our friend's house, but is Taipei classified as Country C to China? are we still eligible for free entry?

Thanks

Jess
