U.S. passport holder with 22hr layover in Shanghai, leaving airport

Hi, I'm a U.S. passport holder. En route to South Korea, I'm making a 22 hour stop in Shanghai and plan to stay the night at a hotel in Shanghai and do a bit of sightseeing. Will I need to apply for a transit visa beforehand and does it fall under "transit G"?

Hi, you can apply for 24h twov in Shanghai, but if you mean leaving the airport, then it is up to the immigration officer and what "policy" they have in store that day. In some cases, however, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations. So you can have a try at the airport.
