How much is a visa to China , have a US passport, and what else do I need to do,

Hi, if you want to apply for a Chinese tourist L type from your home country, you need to pay USD140 per person for that, and you need to provide a filled-out application form affixed with a passport-style photo, your passport and its photocopy, round trip air tickets and hotel reservation.
