About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am going to China on business and want to take my wife as a vacation

I am going to China on business and want to take my wife as a vacation. I will be flying into Beijing with a final destination of Dalian. we would be there for 8 days total. I have an invitation letter from the company we are doing business with and have already gone there once before a bout 2 weeks ago.

Would she qualify for the 240-hour visa free?

Keith, you have missed to inform us about your complete flight itinerary. At the moment we only know that you will arrive into China, but we are not aware what country will you come to China from and also we are not aware what country you will fly from China to. This is essential to determine your wife's eligibility. As far as you know, the basic rule of 240 hour visa free transit requires that the immediate points before and after your mainland China visit are in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). So, if your itinerary is, for example US - mainland China (8 days) - South Korea or Japan - mainland China (8 days) - US or Taiwan - mainland China - France, she would be eligible for 240 hour visa free transit, but if your itinerary is US - mainland China (8 days) - US, that would not be eligible because such an itinerary is considered as a round trip. Please, check your flight itinerary and place the emphasize on the immediate points before and after mainland China and you will easily determine whether your wife would be eligible for 240 hour visa free transit scheme or not.
