About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

I am a UK citizen off a cruise ship docking in the morning

i am booked on an international flight to doha the same day at 23.50. do i need a visa? My previous country visited was Japan.

Edmond Thank you I understand the requirements for the transit but I have been advised that I need to make sure the carrier ensures the information that I require for the transit is put on their system for transmission to the Chinese authorities. So for our return through Shanghai the Immigration are aware. Is this the case and is it the airline that are the carrier? TIA Merle
