About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Docking in Shanghai

Good Afternoon

We are will dis-embarking at Shanghai International Port (Travelling from Japan (MSC Splendida)) on Friday 18th May. We will be staying in Shanghai (Center) until 21st May. We then will be flying home to London from Shanghai (swapping planes in Beijing) Are we eligible for the 144 hrs visa, and is there somewhere we could get written confirmation of this - as a little nervous of being told that we would not be allow into Shanghai, thank you

You are not eligible if your flight has a stop in Mainland China. You need a visa or change your flight.

Thank you, could I just confirm as the stop is for 1hour 45 mins as we change to next flight - we will not be leaving the airport, If we are still not eligible would you advise which visa we need.

Thank you

Doesn't matter how long your stop is. As long as you have another stop, you need a visa or change your flight. A 2-year visa costs £85 plus service fees and changing your flight is very likely to cost more.

For UK citizens, the cheapest is £85 for the visa plus £66 for application service fee, making a total of £151. There are additional fees if you want express or postal service.

On a 144 hour transit without visa in Shanghai, you are not able to travel outside of the Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions. Flying Shanghai to Beijing automatically limits you to 24 hours in china from when you originally arrive in Shanghai.
