About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling through Taiwan to Shanghai

Hi, I’m flying from LAX to Taiwan then to Shanghai for around 33 hours and then a round trip back to Taiwan. Will I need to apply for a visa?

Yes, you need it because Taiwan-Shanghai-Taiwan is not a transit and you cannot use the free transit program.
