About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Taiwan -> Shanghai -> Hong kong -> Taiwan

Hi.

If I am going from Taiwan to Shanghai, be there for 72 hours and then flying to Macau or Hong Kong for a stopover and then back to Taiwan.

Can I get a transit entry permit for my trip?

Thanks

You don't need a transit visa for your trip, if you have a qualifying passport and your flights are non-stop.

Hi.

Thanks for your fast responding.

I just want to make sure if its possible to get the 72/144 hours free transit for Shanghai. If I am flying from Taiwan to Shanghai, and I want to have a couple of days of holiday in Shanghai, and the next stop will be Hong Kong from Shanghai, but only transfer in Hong Kong, and the next stop will be Taiwan again. So, in this case, I am just in Hong Kong for a transfer, and not enter the country. Can I still in this situation get the 72 or the 144 visa to Shanghai? Thanks

Yes. The officials only care about the first point of disembarkation for your return flights and not your final destination.
