Do I need Visa for Shanghai?

I plan to fly into Singapore, board a cruise and land in Shanghai. Spend two nights in Shanghai then fly home to Los Angeles. Am I exempt from obtaining a free transit because I am going to a third country, USA?

Hi, you can use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai by traveling like that. No visa is required then. Nice trip.
