About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualify for the 240 hour visa free transit?

Here are our flight plans with US Passport:
SFO to NRT with 4 day stay in Toyko
HND to SHA with 7 day stay in Shanghai
SHA to HND (1.5 hr layover) to SFO

Sorry, it's not eligible for the 240h free transit because of the flights HND - SHA - HND, which is recognized as a round trip to Japan. You may change your flight to make the stops before and after Shanghai different countries or regions like HND - SHA - HK, then fly to SFO or HND - SHA - SFO.
