Japan > Beijing > USA

I am trying to get a definite answer as to whether or not my husband and I qualify for the 72 hour free visa travel. We will be flying from Japan to Beijing on March 30th, landing in Beijing around 5:30 pm and we will be leaving Beijing to go to the United States on April 2nd at 12:45 pm. From what I can tell, we do qualify but I've tried to contact the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC and have heard no response. Thank you!
