About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Are there any travel or visa restrictions I should know about before applying for my L visa?

Hello. I live in Tokyo and have planned a trip to fly into Beijing and travel through mainland China down to Hong Kong then fly out of Hong Kong back to Tokyo (20 days as a tourist). Is this possible? Thank you in advance.

Your route is ok. If you hold valid tourist type, you can visit mainland. However, if you plan to visit Tibet, you should join a group tour instead because individual foreigners are not allowed to visit there alone. And a special travel permit is required.

To visit HK, if you are Japanese, you can enjoy 90 days free stay there.
