About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

Do we need a PRC visa to stay in and see Shanghai for less than 24 hours on my way to Manila?

I hold a Philippines passport while my wife has an American passport. We just want to see the city of Shanghai. Arriving at 5 a.m. and leaving at 12 midnight the same day for Manila.

No, neither of you need it. You are qualified for the 24-hour free transit policy. To get out of the airport, you just need to apply for a temporary stay permit upon arrival.
