About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I want to do overnight visit from Hong Kong to Shanghai and return to Hong Kong.

is this possible? (Have a valid passport) In other words can a valid 3rd country be the same or is it purely transit? I do know Shenzhen allows this.

Darryl, Shenzhen allows this because you can apply for a VOA at the port. However, in Shanghai, the VOA is not available. If you want to enjoy the 72-hour free transit policy, you have to fly to a third country, and this country cannot be the same as your departure country.
