About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Hong Kong as a Third Region

After my trip to Malaysia, I would like to see Hong Kong and Shanghai before going to Canada. Can I fly from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and stay a few days, then go to Shanghai for less than 72 hours, then fly on to Canada?

Gord, if you only transit in Shanghai, you are eligible for the 72-hour free transit service.

So I can stay in Hong Kong for 72 hours, and then Shanghai for 72 hours?

Yes, you can. Actually you can stay more than 72 hours in HK if you like. Canadians enjoy 90 days free stay there.
