About:Visa Policy of China

would be 3 hours more than 72 hours. Would this be OK with a 72 hour visa?

I would like to take a flight from Auckland New Zealand to Beijing that arrives around 6:00. The outward flight to Hong Kong 3 days later leaves at 9:00.

Doreen, I suggest you contact Beijing airport Immigration Inspection at 0086-10-56095400 to figure it out. According to some travellers, 72 hours is counted from the moment you get that stamp on your passport. However, I don't think it takes more than 3 hours to apply for the transit. If it is true, then I am afraid that you are disqualified.

Thank you for the telephone number and your quick response! I am in the United States and only have a cell phone so calling Beijing Airport Immigration Inspection from here would be prohibitive. Do you perhaps have an email address for the airport Immigration Inspection?

I emailed the Chinese Embassy and researched their website. From what I understand, "According to the latest information from the airports, the 72 hours are calculated from 00:00 the following day of the entry date to the scheduled departure time in almost all the airports. but it is best to consult with the airport in advance, especially Beijing". If I can't do this via email, can you tell me the mailing address and i shall write to them?

I think this would be valuable information for many of your passengers. Thanks!

Doreen, I am sorry that I couldn't find the email address for the airport inspection team. Cellphone is ok to make international calls. If you can't use your phone to make international calls, you may use the public phones to make the call.

Can someone at your office call Beijing Airport Inspection and ask them, can a USA citizen arriving from Auckland New Zealand in Beijing at 5:30 am and departs 3 days later on the first flight to Hong Kong at 9 am, is the 72 hour visa OK (72 hours + 3.5 hours)?
Put another way, does time start from the stamping the passport, or does it start at 0:00 AFTER arrival.
If there were a 5:30 am flight out of Beijing to Hong Kong I could take it, but first flights aren't until 9 am

Doreen, as far as know, somebody called the Airport Immigration and got the answer "72 hours are counted from the moment you get that stamp on your passport". So I think it's risky if you don't apply for the entry permit. You can also check this with your airline. They deal with such cases for many times. They should know the exact answer.
