About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

South African 24-hour visa-free transit

Good day, please clarify whether a South African qualifies for the 24-hour visa-free transit. I have an 8-hour layover before departing for Macau?

The citizens of practically all countries, South African citizens included, are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit if their itinerary has its immediate points, before and after mainland China, in two different countries or eligible territories. Eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. In other words if your itinerary arrives from a country / territory that is different than Macau and total layover time in mainland China is shorter than 24 hours, your itinerary is eligible one. So, if you plan to fly, for example:

Japan - mainland China - Macau
Thailand - mainland China - Macau
South Africa - mainland China - Macau

You are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. You will stay airside (within the airport transit area) and you will not have to perform any formality nor fill out any forms. Basically, you will just walk from one to the other gate and you will not be a subject of immigration and customs inspections. Have a nice journey.
