About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I am a US citizen flying from London to Shanghai for 2 days and then flying to Hong Kong

I believe Hong Kong is considered a 3rd territory, so I am hoping I will qualify for 72 hr visa-free transit permit. I will be staying in Shanghai all the time for my 2 days stay. My flight from London has a few hrs (2-3 hours) layover in Doha, Qatar. I should inform airlines company while checking in at London itself about wanting to apply for a 72 hr transit permit, correct? And they will provide me the necessary paperwork, correct?

Thank you & Regards

Veena, you qualify for the 72hr free transit. You need to tell the airline that you want to use this free transit policy before the flight arrives in Shnghai and the airline staff will inform Shanghai immigration. I don't think they need to provide you any paperwork.
