About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

I, a US citizen, have 10 years multiple entry visa to China, each can stay 4 months.

I want to stay for 6 month. Can I go to Hong Kong or Macau to re-enter to get the 2nd four month after the end of 1st 4 month? Thanks!

Yes, you can go to Hong Kong or Macau and reenter from there to activate another four-month stay duration.
