About:Hong Kong Visa Policy

Do we need to get visa traveling to Hong Kong for 7 days trough Beijing (stopping for 72 hr)?

We are USA citizens, traveling from Seattle (USA) trough Beiging (staying 72 hrs at the hotel) before traveling on to HK. We understood that we do not need apply for HK, but if we stop at Beijing for less than 72 hrs do we need one?
Thank you for your answer.

Marina, you don't need one, as you can make use of the 72 hour free trasit policy.

thank you for your answer. we are checking for tickets now and it seems like we have a direct flight to Beijing, will stay there 72 hrs, then fly to HK, stay there for 8 days and on the way back to USA from HK we do not have a direct flight. We have only option with one stop at Beijing airport (1.5hr) before the next flight to Seattle. Seems we already used 72 hrs free transit policy, what should we do now? Because of this extra stop do we need to obtain visa?
Thank you very much for your time!
