About:China Visa Application in USA

I'm taking a cruise out of Shanghai port to Japan for 7 days. Do I need a visa?

I'm planning to tour Shanghai for 2 days before the cruise. Total of 10 days counting the cruised days. What kind of visa do I need? I'm from Texas. Some people say yes to visa, and some say no. I'm confused about the 10 days visa free, 240 hours visa free, 15 days free visa. Please advise. Thank you.

What about your complete cruise route, Vivian? According to the information you have mentioned, you can enter Shanghai visa free under the 240h visa free transit with a qualified route of Texas – Shanghai – Japan. Cruise date is not counted in the 10 days. When you reenter, you get another 10-day, if your second arrival is also an eligible one.
