About:Transfer in T3 of Beijing Capital Airport

International to international transit in Beijing

I will be arriving from Seoul on Air China and leaving PEK on United 4 hours after arrival at PEK to the United States. I do NOT have a combo ticket, the two flights -- IAD to PEK and return to IAD and PEK to ICN and back to PEK to catch the return trip to IAD. I will have one checked luggage that I will need to pick up from Air China and check in at United -- I don't think i can check it through from Seoul to the US.

How do I do this and do I have enough time?

Gee, you do have an complicated situation. However, I can tell you for any international to international transfer in any terminal at PEK, 4 hours are enough. Don't worry!

As I know, you will take this transit at T3, where both of your airlines are located. Then here is the general procedure:
1:Flight Arrival
2:Transfer Procedures (follow the guiding signs for the transfer circuit to go to the Transfer Counter at 3rd floor for handling boarding procedures. )
3:Border Inspection (you have to go through the immigration)
4:Security Check
5:Custom Inspection
6:Waiting & Boarding

Since it is a different airline, I will have to claim my luggage from the Seoul flight and then recheck it for the US flight. When I look at the procedures, it appears that I might have to leave the transit area completely and go to the international baggage claim area and then reenter entirely after checking my luggage at United. Is that correct or is there a special way to collect and recheck luggage entirely in the international transit area?

My experience using 2 unique tickets on consecutive flights is there should be no problem,
especially international-to-international.
Simply show the first airline both tickets, and they should be able to check your bag all the way through to the final destination.
