I am a British Citizen, living in Japan. I must travel to the UK, but want to go to China from there

I am living in Tokyo, but during the Summer I am flying back to the UK. However, I wish to fly from London to Beijing to study at a Chinese language school and stay with some Chinese friends from 12th to 24th July, and then fly back to London. After that I will then return to Japan at the very end of July. If I get a visa from the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo will that be OK?
