About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

I work for an Australian company and I have been asked to work in their Shanghai office for a period of 7 months.

1) Which visa should I apply for?
2) If I need to obtain a Chinese Drivers' License, is the type going to affect my application for license?

You should apply for a work Z type. It is the best type you can have for this purpose, and you can obtain Chinese Drivers' License without any problem.
