We will travel around Australia and asia for 6 months and will end our trip with a visit to China and Hong Kong. We will spend approximately 2 months in this region. What visa should we apply? Is it possible to apply 6 months before we go? Is it possible to apply from another country? What is the best way to solve this?

You can't apply China visa 6 months before you go because a single entry visa is only valid for 3 months, if you apply visa too early, it expires when you go to China. If you hold Sweden passport, you don't need a visa for less than 90 days stay in Hong Kong. You can apply for a China visa two months before your trip to China in another country, you can also first get a China visa in Hong Kong, then go to Mainland China, it takes 4 working days for regular processing in Hong Kong.
