About:Visa Policy of China

Hi Everyone, i wonder if you can help.

I am currently in South Korea and am trying to get a Visa for China. The problem that I am having is that as a British national in Korea, the embassy will only offer me a 1 month Tourist(L) visa. This is compared to a standard 3 month visa i have obtained previously from the China embassy in London.

I plan to spend more time in China than 1 month. Will i be able to obtain a visa extension or another visa, in a city such as Xining?

Also, could someone please inform me as to whether China visa's begin on the day of entry or on the day of application acceptance.

Thanks in advance for your help

Richie

yes, you can get a visa extension in the local exit & Enter Department under Xining Public Security Bureau.

The stay duration of visa begins on the date of entry, the validity of the visa begins on the date of application acceptance.

I have a similiar problem as Mr. Richie in that I have a multiple entry L visa to China valid for 30 days stay. On my next trip, I would like to stay for exactly 37 days and would like to apply for a visa extension in Xining before travelling up to Lhasa where there is unfortunately no office of the Public Security Bureau. I have only 3 days in Xining before catching the train to Lhasa.

Does anyone know how many days are required to apply and get a visa extension?

Thanks in anticipation for your help.

Hi Andrew C, in some cities, visa extension takes at least 5 working days. And they requre to apply no less than 5 days prior to expiration date.

I would like to ask Bert or anyone if it is necessary to leave your passport with the people when applying for an extension as I am planning on travelling while waiting for the extension and then returning for it a week later? Do they give it back to you or a receipt to show in hotels etc because as many people are aware you got to show your passport in hotels and get stopped a lot by the police when cycling or camping. Thanks for this info folks.

Hi Tom, yes, the original passport is required for extension, but you will get a receipt as proof of the processing.
