240-hour visa-free transit

I have a Vietnamese passport and a valid residence permit in Japan.
I am planning to travel from Osaka to Chengdu on December 26, 2026, and then from Chengdu to Ho Chi Minh City on January 1, 2027.
I would like to use the 240-hour visa-free transit policy in China. However, I plan to purchase the two flights separately, with different booking numbers. Would I still be eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit, or do the flights need to be booked as a single itinerary/interline ticket?

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need a visa of any kind. Every single detail within your itinerary is eligible and in the line with the existing rules including your two separate tickets. Separate tickets were always acceptable and you can proceed with your travel plan with absolute peace of time. I strongly suggest you to print out your flight tickets and your accommodation booking confirmations and have them in hand in both Osaka at the time of check-in and in Chengdu at the time of your landing there. Have a nice visit to China.
